The 13th African Swimming Championships began on September 10 and the Egyptian team has already garnered several medals.
The championship, which is ongoing until September 15, is taking place in Algiers, Algeria. This year’s biennial event has a total of 31 participating African countries.
In the past two days, the Egyptian team won a total of 15 medals: 8 Gold, 6 Silver and 1 Bronze.
From the men’s team, Mohamed Samy won Gold in the 50m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle.
In the 800m freestyle, Marwan Elkamash won Gold and Marwan El-Amrawy won Silver.
Elkamash also won Silver in the 200m freestyle. His brother Youssef Elkamash won Gold in the 50m breaststroke and Silver in the 100m breaststroke.
Ahmed Hamdi won Bronze in the 400m individual medley.
From the women’s team, Farida Osman won Gold in the 50m butterfly and Silver in the 100m freestyle.
Hania Moro won Gold in the 200m freestyle.
Samiha Mohsen and Rowaida Hesham won Silver in the 50m backstroke and 200m breaststroke, respectively.
Egypt also came in first place in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay, swam by Ali Khalafalla, Mohsen, Osman and Samy.
